Opening session being run as part of the DPH 2025 conference.

Date: Thursday, 24th July 2025
Time: 9:00 – 10:30

Session Overview

Digitalisation has transformed healthcare in the recent decades, and the widespread implementation of digital health information systems enabled access to latest medical evidence for professionals and public, interoperability between healthcare systems to improve efficiency and robustness, and better disease surveillance at national and international levels. This is in particular critical for improving One Health emergencies, requiring cooperation between health, veterinary and environment sectors to improve surveillance, early warning and response to health threats.

In this session, Dr Natasha Azzopardi-Muscat will outline the digital health and one health efforts in WHO European Region and discuss the key priorities for the European Programme of Work 2.0.

Prof Jailson Correia will discuss One Health emergencies and digital health opportunities with focus on Brazil, while Dr Bruna Gouveia will bring the Madeira perspective and achievements in VBD and Entomological Surveillance on the island.

The panel debate will highlight the key digital health and surveillance challenges and lessons learned from the three geographical perspectives – international – European Region, national – Brazil and regional – Madeira island.
